Jiu Jitsu for Pukekohe Kids & Adults
Train For Life is a jiu jitsu and No-Gi grappling gym in Bombay, 10 minutes from Pukekohe. Classes for kids from age 5, teens, adults and women's self defence run every week, and complete beginners are welcome.
Why Pukekohe families train with us
We are a small, family-run gym, not a big commercial club. Our grappling is based on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, taught No-Gi with a focus on practical skills you can actually use: takedowns, escapes, control and getting back to your feet safely.
For Pukekohe families it is an easy trip up to Bombay for an after-school class. Kids train in groups by age and ability, so a nervous five-year-old is not thrown in with teenagers, and parents often come back later in the week for an adult class of their own.
What to expect at your first class
Send an enquiry first so we know you are coming and can make sure the right class is ready for you. Wear comfortable training clothes with no zips or buttons, bring a drink bottle, and arrive a few minutes early to meet the coach.
Every class starts with a warm-up, then technique is broken down step by step and practised with a partner. Beginners work at their own pace. Nobody is expected to know anything on day one, and training partners look after each other.
- Kids learn discipline, respect, listening and self defence
- Teens can step up to MMA grappling from age 13
- Adults build real skills, fitness and confidence
- Women have their own Friday self defence grappling class
Beyond the mats
Jiu jitsu builds more than technique. Kids grow in confidence and focus, and adults find a training habit that is challenging, social and never boring. Kids progress through a belt system that rewards effort and learning, so there is always a next step to work towards.
Many of our members started with no martial arts background at all. Some came for fitness, some for self defence, some because their kids started first. They stay because the classes are fun, the people are welcoming and every week brings something new to learn.

What our people say.
“The Kids grappling Classes are awesome. My 5 year old has been training with Train for Life Fitness for 2 full terms and loves it. She has learnt discipline, listening skills, respecting your training partner as well as self defense skills. The team make fitness fun for the kids which will set them up to love fitness when they are older.”
Amy Thompson
“Great place. My daughter and I have been doing Jujitsu here for 3 years. She loves it and its been great for her focus and self discipline. Super friendly atmosphere and really practical and effective teaching style. Adult classes cover a good range of techniques with a focuses on stand-up and even wall wrestling. Very different to the other local clubs and holds up well. Would strongly recommend for people looking to get into BJJ.”
